Urban Air Market Oakland is just around the corner! We are so excited to be back for our 2nd year at The Hive bringing the best sustainable products in art, beauty, fashion & so much more. But if that’s not enough to get you pumped up for the show, check out this incredible musical lineup we locked down:

FRANCES ANCHETA

Frances Ancheta is a San Francisco-based musician, singer/songwriter, and performer. With two albums to date and a third one on the way, she has been performing original music and her own interpretations of covers for the past 17 years. Frances Ancheta continues to reach fans around the world with her distinct and enjoyable musical style, described by many as “tropical new wave folk”, reflecting the eclectic sounds she grew up with as a Filipina-American in the San Francisco Bay Area.

GABY CASTRO-MORODER

Gaby Castro is an Americana singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet, model, actress, and activist. This San Francisco Bay Area native spent her early teenage years writing songs in her bedroom and performing them at coffeehouse open mics before earning a Bachelor of Music in Composition (Songwriting) at McNally Smith College of Music in 2016. Gaby’s upcoming projects include a 5-song EP entitled La Guerrera/The Warrior coming early 2019, followed by her next album, Foundations & Destinations. An advocate for mental illness awareness, many of Gaby’s songs touch on her personal struggles and the trials of those around her. Let her music tell the stories.

MARDI MORILLO

Mardi Morillo is a singer-songwriter out of the Bay Area. In a former life, he worked as a CIO in the healthcare industry. He found his life’s passion in music when he quit due to losing partial vision from glaucoma. Born legally blind, this further loss of vision, refocused him to pursue something more meaningful. Something creative. After picking up the guitar to learn one song (“Stop This Train” by John Mayer) he began writing his own songs and music has changed his life.

SOLATE MUSIC

Solate fluidly blends rhythmic guitar compositions of Joel Mandella with melodic storytelling of Maya Vilaplana in a unique indie-soul experience. Emboldened and enhanced by the vocal harmonies of Marissa Bergmann and the bass stylings of Kevin Goldberg, Solate is based in the Bay Area of California and looks to share their music with anyone who loves a good guitar lick and a heartfelt lullaby.

THE ALEGRE SISTERS

The Alegre Sisters are a harmonizing, ukelele-strumming, sister band. Mama Alegre taught sisters CJ & Lauren to sing when they were knee-high to a grasshopper, and today their sweet, intimately blended vocals conjure the one-of-a-kind magic of homegrown music.

Music’s in the (Urban) Air!

Need a soundtrack while you shop? We’ve got you covered! Check out the incredible musicians lined up for our highly anticipated Urban Air Market Los Feliz show. From acoustic soul to sexy international jazz, you’ll definitely find yourself moving to an infectious beat or two!

Dani W & Andrew Garcia

Dani W and Andrew Garcia, a dynamic duo serves up an acoustic soul vibe that feels like home again. The duo often partners with global organizations to impact women and students in local communities, inspiring and empowering growth through original music such as “Legacy”. Dani W has also been heard on networks such as E! and Oxygen. Join the adventure!

Frances Livings’ Ipanema Lounge

The multilingual jazz singer and songstress Frances Livings and her trio Ipanema Lounge offer a unique, interesting & international repertoire: a sensual and enticing blend of Mediterranean/Latin pop and jazz in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. All driven by creative and infectious Tango, Bossa Nova or Swing grooves. Her musical performances express a rich atmosphere of cultural diversity that they guarantee to carry you along on an emotional journey – loved by both jazz enthusiasts and those who never considered themselves jazz fans!

The Irish Goodbye

Kevin Brennan and Jeff Cohlman became brothers through music. They have recorded and played extensively in all corners of Southern California. Songs of heartbreak, drinking and triumph. This is The Irish Goodbye. The latest EP, “This Machine Kills” is available now wherever finer music streams.

Jonny Sands

Jonny Sands provides a refreshing departure from the typical singer/songwriter style that has become so ubiquitous in the coffee shops and bars around America and beyond. Sands uses unique and sonically textured guitar arrangements to compliment his pensive and earnest lyrical style. His songs tend to be free of the cutesy hooks and cliché ideas that are prevalent in the genre, and if you listen closely you will feel the depth of the ideas that he packs into short but powerful phrases.

MB3

MB3 knows loves crossing musical boundaries. From Tin Pan Alley classics of the 1920’s to rock era to originals in a freewheeling arrays of genres, this trio loves to discover and explore great tunes, create fun grooves and develop a great rapport with audiences. Guitarist/singer Martin Blasick has placed many of his songs in movies including co-writing with Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey for Magic Mike, and having his song “Don’t Move On” performed by Lindsey Lohan in Disney’s Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen. Multi talented bassist Jon Alvarez is a studio whiz in addition to playing for top acts. Kerry Crutchfield drummed for the award winners blues band The Curbfeelers. In the words of the immortal Duke Ellington – “If it sounds good, it is good.”

Sylvia Bosco

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Sylvia Bosco has been performing both as an actor and singer since childhood. She started writing songs and playing guitar at twelve years old, and gained her first residency at Room 5 Lounge at 16. While her passion is in music, Sylvia continues to pursue acting on screen and on stage. She holds a Bachelor’s in Theatre Arts from California State Univ. Fullerton, and recently earned a certificate in Artist Development from California College of Music. She performs regularly at LA venues, farmer’s markets, community events, and vintage craft fairs. Currently, Sylvia is mixing her debut EP, “Mesmerized” which is scheduled to be released mid 2018.

Los Feliz is gonna be jumpin’ on Sunday, June 3rd! Don’t miss out on this amazing pop-up event, RSVP here!

Shop’s Open!

Urban Air Market is thankful for all of our vendors who continue to support and participate in our shows like Los Feliz! We appreciate your talent, hard work & commitment to sustainable practices and are always thrilled to see success on numerous levels. Here are a few Urban Air vendors we’d like to highlight who have recently opened up a brand new brick & mortar store…congratulations!

LuVandus

Artisan perfumer Tyler Monk started LuVandus three years ago driven by his passion for fragrances. As a child, he created bath oils to sell in local markets then eventually found himself working in the restaurant industry in Sacramento as an adult. It was his passion for food and experience that led him back to his early love of blending fragrance. He began with candles but fragrances soon became his primary drive. After studying the craft of perfuming, he applied his knowledge of blends to create unique, evocative, gender-neutral parfums and body products.

LuVandus began in Monk’s home lab, with all products created in-home and sold across his website, big retailers and pop-up shows like Urban Air Market. Soon LuVandus line would be picked up by such notable perfumeries as Tiger Lily in San Francisco, Fragrance Vault in South Lake Tahoe, and several other retail shops within Northern California.

Recently, Monk moved their base of operations, LuVandus Labs, to Boar Haus Boutique. With a charming farmhouse-meets-industrial, Wyoming-meets-New York style, it’s a great fit as both businesses strive to provide high quality products to patrons of discerning taste. Guests will have the option of taking fragrance classes from Tyler Monk and learn about how to apply those fragrances to a variety of products such as body lotions, bubble baths, diffusers & much more.

Moona Star

Monica Zaidman has been pursuing her passion since she was a young girl, recycling her own clothes to design outfits for her dolls. After graduating from fashion school, Monica started her first label making clothes out of vintage lace curtains & tablecloths in her small studio apartment in San Francisco. From there she participated in local fashion shows with Danielle Cohen’s collective Missing Piece and also showcased with Urban Air market for years. Moona Star is Monica’s newest creation. Now in its third year, Moona Star is an integration of her lifelong inspirations and experiences.

With Moona Star, Monica gets to work with her dream team in the heart of the Los Angeles garment district, allowing her to focus on her passion for design, creative direction, and sustainable fabric sourcing. Moona Star has been steadily developing a core fan base in Topanga where Monica regularly hosts successful pop-ups and trunk shows, becoming the impetus for opening the Moona Star local flagship store right in Topanga Canyon. Make sure to visit when they open in June!

No Tox Life

We are super excited to announce that we’ve opened a brick-and-mortar store in Glassell Park at 3351 Fletcher Drive! We carry all our own products plus skin care and gift items from other LA-based artisans — candles, crystals, hand-loomed cotton towels and blankets, greeting cards and more! Plus our new retail store is right next door to our studio where we make all our vegan skin care products and candles…how cool is that? We’re super happy to locate both buildings and snag them together. Inside our studio, we host DIY workshops in skin care plus other lifestyle subjects like Kombucha making and chakra reading. In November, we’re hosting 25 indie makers for our Indie Eastside event. We’ll have food trucks and live music, plus swag bags and everyone gets the opportunity to shop small for the holidays with their favorite artisans!

Show these vendors some love along with 100+ independent artists, designers & makers at our Los Feliz show on Sunday, June 3rd. Admission is free for all ages! RSVP here

Spring Show Sounds

Our highly anticipated Hayes Valley Spring event is happening this Sunday, May 6th! You already know about all the amazing vendors set to offer the best in sustainable art, fashion, home decor & beauty…but did you know about the incredible LIVE music we have lined up:

BIRDS OF FIRE

Take Zeppelin, Hendrix and Sabbath, throw ’em in a mission tortilla and liberally sprinkle some psychedelic salt and pepper with a dash of wtf, drop ’em down in San Francisco and you have Birds of Fire! Featuring Christopher Blea and Kaden Owens.

BLONDE TOLEDO

Blonde Toledo’s music is a wonderful blend of familiar and new, a melodic nod to American Bandstand danceability with rhythms influenced by a plurality of backgrounds. It’s full of surprises yet firmly based in the traditions of Brill Building pop, Colombian cumbia, jazz and others. The band is lead by Double Sax goddess Connie Walkershaw, bass player Jesse Walkershaw, Latin percussionist Connie, Joe Chavez, drummer Rick Kennon and guitarist Andy Charmatz. The band has just released their first LP “Where’s That Sound” on The Laryngitis Label.

As the lead singer for the Silk Road Truckers, Colton is an important voice of Bay Area rock & roll music. His solo act is a brilliant channeling of soul, rock, and blues music that he creates with an acoustic guitar and a gravelly timbre. Catch him performing loudly and often at San Francisco’s very own Milk Bar on Haight Street! His band The Silk Road Truckers was born in the basement of a Haight Street commune in 2015 and considers their sound  as”good time rock & roll”.

LOUIZA

Born and raised in California, Becky Mimiaga has been studying voice since age 11. She started writing and performing her own music at age 16 while fronting various rock, folk and blues bands. After finishing her studies in the East Coast, she teamed up with orchestrator/producer Maxim Moston to record Words in the Dark – a highly personal work for voice, piano and orchestral instruments. In the same year, she built a rock band under the guise, LOUIZA. She left NYC for Oakland in 2015 and within that year began recording Party Trick at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco. Currently, Rebecca is mixing her second LOUIZA album.

MAXIMUM POLTERGEIST

Maximum Poltergeist began four years ago as a way to explore the minds and lives of various species surviving this planet, and has since moved into space, imagining the leftovers of the final frontier.  Luckily, it’s done tactfully, or with the pretense of tact, so nobody really gets hurt.  In the end, the dance survives.

MICHELLE LAMBERT

Northern California’s own indie pop artist Michelle Lambert is known for her strong, passionate and versatile voice, as can be heard when she’s spitting rapid fire lyrics in her new single “My California”. The electro-acoustic violin is her axe and it hits you like she’s shredding an electric guitar. Her influences are Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran and Adele. Her partner Robbie brings it on the acoustic guitar with driving rhythms, tight arrangements and percussion hits that take over the stage. Michelle has performed in acclaimed venues such as The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and the Great American Music Hall in SF (opening for John Mayer). She’s now making waves in the Bay Area and playing festivals and venues all over California.

ONE MAN BANJO
A One Man Banjo show is an energetic experience that incites movement, dancing, the clapping of hands, participation & a couple of sing-alongs. It combines old time tunes in a unique rhythmic fashion that creates a slightly dark yet vibrant experience.

REISENDER
Reisender’s music features an eclectic mix of 80s-reminiscent synths and drums, grooving mandolin riffs, cement bucket drum samples, and unadulterated indie pop hooks. The result is a sound comparable to groups such as Two Door Cinema Club, Tame Impala, Washed Out, and Miike Snow. Conroy’s greatest personal influences are Paul Simon, Damon Albarn, Pixies, and Paul McCartney.
