It’s a great way to learn a new skill and transform materials into something awesome.

This all-ages event, in partnership with Jack London Square, is accompanied by a tree lighting ceremony. It’s the perfect start to the holiday season!

Ain’t No Party Like A Community Paint Party…

No matter what city we visit, Urban Air Market is all about supporting the local creative community. For the third year in the row, we’re proudly partnering with ArtSpan for our Hayes Valley Fall show. Meet local artists, make hands-on art projects, and learn about the San Francisco visual arts community!

ArtSpan is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting the public to visual arts in San Francisco. Through SF Open Studios, the oldest and largest open studios program in the country, ArtSpan creates a space for artists to thrive by providing local exhibits, youth and adult education, and other art-centric events.

One of those events includes their community mural project! This Sunday 9/17 at Urban Air Market: Hayes Valley, shoppers will get a chance to paint a mini-canvas that will become part of larger mural, inspired by the work of a local artist.

When the mural is complete, participants are welcome to free-paint until the end of the market. Come ready to paint and be creative!

Details of last year’s mural!

Don’t forget to RSVP on Eventbrite and invite your friends:

Portland Giveaway: Macrame Workshop with Little Feral!

We may not all be going to back to school in the fall, but it’s always a good time to learn something new! For Little Feral’s fiber artist, Kaysie Condren, macrame is not only a great creative skill, but a form of meditation that brings art and the self together.

So what IS macrame?

Macrame is a way to create textiles by knotting cords or string together.

Like this!

Ever wanted to learn how to macrame? You’re in luck! We’re giving away a spot in Little Feral’s macrame workshop at Urban Air Market: Portland.

You’ll learn all of the basic knots, gain an understanding of the process that is essential to working independently, and leave with your own super rad macrame plant hanger! All supplies will be provided, including colored yarn to add some pizzaz to your work! Kaysie is a relaxed and encouraging teacher and this class promises to be casual, fun, and informative.

To enter our Little Feral macrame contest, make sure to:

  1. RSVP on Eventbrite. (We’ll be checking!)
  2. Follow the steps on our entry form here.

Our contest ends September 1st and winner will be notified by email. Get those entries in!

Urban Air Market: Pacific Northwest

Summer may be ending soon, but you know what that means — the return of Urban Air Market’s Fall shows!

Come September, we’re back with not one, not two, but three markets in three different locations: Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco. That’s triple the amount of local vendors and sustainable goods to check out! And with everything from clothing and accessories, to art and home goods, our curated markets have a little something for everyone.

Here’s the scoop:

On Saturday, September 2nd, we’re popping up in Portland’s Pearl District for our fourth year in Portland, Oregon. With 85+ emerging designers, musicians, and artists at our market, and Art in the Pearl a few blocks away, we’re in the heart of the Metro Area’s innovative creative community. And don’t forget to check out interactive projects by students and alumni of Oregon College of Art and Craft!

Urban Air Market: Portland is FREE to attend and will take place on NW 13th Ave at Hoyt on Saturday, September 2nd from 11am – 6pm.

A week later on Saturday, September 9th, we’re returning to Seattle for our second year and proudly partnering with Design in Public. With large scale interactive sculptures and installations by architect students and makers, stop by and celebrate how design improves our lives and that of the community.

Urban Air Market: Seattle is FREE to attend and will take place in Occidental Square on Saturday, September 9th from 10 am – 5 pm.

RSVP on Eventbrite to receive a free tote bag on the day of our event. Supply is limited so remember it’s first come, first stoked! If you or your maker friends want to join the fun and become a vendor, we’re accepting applications here:

We hope to see you all there!

The Place for Locally Grown Jobs!

For those local to the Bay Area, you know that Localwise is the place to find local jobs or for employers to hire local talent. But even if you’re not from the Bay, you’re in luck: within the last few months, Localwise has recently expanded to the entire United States. With 5,000+ employers on their site, they’re looking to empower businesses and job seekers in different cities and states to create stronger local communities.

Employers love Localwise. Just ask Urban Air Market founder, Danielle Cohen! It just so happens that the two newest members of Urban Air Market were found through Localwise. We chatted with our Sales Intern, Elena Tolstop, on her experience using Localwise and a few reasons why she used it as a resource for finding local jobs.

Our kickass Sales Intern, Elena.

  1. Localwise Matching helps you find the right job with employers relevant to your interests and allows you to filter by criteria such as community type and time commitment. “For a lot of other sites, you kind of have to read through the description to find out if a position is part time or not. With Localwise, you can not only choose a time-frame commitment, but you can even specify in the search if you are looking for strictly evening, or just weekends as well.”
  2. 5,000+ local employers that follow Localwise’s community oriented guidelines. “A lot of the positions I found on the site were local small business owners, so you’re not sending your resume into a questionable abyss!”
  3. Finding diverse employers that positively impact their community. “The position I found with Urban Air Market is super special because it is a true local community-based job, where I get the opportunity to discover new artists, designers, and makers.”

Marketing Intern, Ailyn Pambid, and Elena, both hired through Localwise!

Ready to be part of the most trusted community for local jobs? Visit Localwise and create a profile. From there you can upload your resume, cover letter, and have access to 1-Click Apply, which is probably the fastest way to apply to any job. Not only that, but you can manage various job applications from your profile and get alerts from your favorite businesses to know when they’re hiring.

Who knows, maybe you can be the newest member of Urban Air Market one day!
